Identify frequencies by ear

How to identify frequencies by ear – Courtesy of the Audio University

Humans are capable of hearing 10 Octaves; 31.5Hz, 63Hz, 125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz, 1KHz, 2KHz, 4KHz, 8KHz, 16KHz.

Audio University, believes that by associating vowel sounds with frequency bands, it would be possible to know intuitively which frequencies are either dominant or missing to instruct the mixing engineer to quickly determine where EQ can solve problems in a mix.

In the audiophile context, we may benefit by knowing which frequency band may be coloring the music. This training method teaches you to identify the 5-octave frequency bands between 250 Hz and 4 kHz. The video provides a link to tools (freeware) that could be used – webtet.net. They also suggest other resources such as a book for critical listening and a weblink for a step-by-step guide (free) to set up the tools suggested.
